William Barriffe published his drill books throughout the Civil War. It is on the later versions of this book that the regiment bases its drill manoeuvres. Barriffe's work has been described both as a miracle of the military art and the ramblings of a deranged mind.

I have been trying to produce a synopsis of Barriffe for easier use and understanding. These attempts were originally designed to be published in The Yellow Sash, the Bright's regimental newsletter, and for use at drill sessions. They are presented here for those sad people, like me who like this sort of thing, or are unable to sleep at nights.
